Danny The Champion of The World by Roald Dahl

is about a boy and his father who are mechanics who live in a caravan. The boy's name is Danny; his father has a deep dark secret that Danny has not known for 9 years(that's Danny's age). The deep dark secret is that his father poaches pheasants in Hazel's Wood! Danny wants to learn about poaching, his father says that his father was the best poacher in the village. He had 2 secret ways to catch pheasants,one was called "the horse hair stopper", the other was called "the sticky hat". Later Danny's father breaks his ankle poaching, he needs sleeping pills from the doctor when they fix him up. Danny figures out that if you use the sleeping pills on the pheasants they will fall asleep and you can just pick them up. So they stuff a bunch of the sleeping pill powder in raisins(pheasants LOVE raisins) So they go into Hazel's Wood drop tons of those raisins and they pick up tons of pheasants. It was a great book.
