The Cricket in Times Square  by George Selden was a great book.

It's about a boy who finds a cricket. The cricket's name was Chester, but the boy (who was named Mario) does not know that. Chester came from Connecticut from climbing in a picnic basket and the people with the basket go on a train to NY The cricket meets a mouse named Tucker and a cat named Harry cat.

Chester is a great singer and performs for all the people to see at a subway station. Chester went back to his home and stays there.
