I read Strawberry Girl by Lois Lenski. The story takes place in Forida a long time ago . This is a story about a ten year old girl named Birdie Boyer and her family, and the neighbors, the Slaters.
The main problem is that Birdie's dad and Mr. Slater had many fights. Mr. Boyer is trying to have a farm. Mr. Slater is trying to raise cattle . The Boyer's garden is getting trampled by Slater's animals in order to get water. Mr. Slater thinks the cattle should be going where ever they want to go. Mr. Boyer thinks that he has a right to put a fence up.
A lot of bad things happened . Birdie's dad killed three of Slater's hogs . He did it because Mr. Slater stole his spotted calf . The Slater's poisoned the mule Semina in return . The Slaters tried to burn Birdie's house down.
One good thing that happened in the book is that all the families got together and had a party. Mrs. Boyer saved Mrs . Slater's life, and the family. The book had a happy ending. The Slaters and the Boyers became friends again. Mr. Slater stopped drinking. He tried to be nice again. I disliked the book because I did not like how it was written. The characters did not pronounce the words correctly
