We're fact finding in the fourth grade. Armed with grid paper, markers, and our knowledge of multiplication, we are creating rectangular arrays to exhibit the factors of a whole number. Creating models, even with marker and paper, helps students understand the concept of multiplication.
It is also important to regularly practice the basic multiplication facts through the 12 times tables. Quick recall of the facts is necessary for future math understanding, including division, fractions, and larger multiplication problems.
