This week fourth graders have been putting their knowledge of spelling rules to the test as they participate in mock spelling bees. Each morning, each student climbs into the chair of wonderous knowledge, and is given a word and 40 seconds, and tries their best to spell that word correctly.
Mrs. McCallihan is looking for students who spell carefully, and are comfortable spelling in front of many people. Past spelling bees have had nearly 200 people in attendance.
This year's spelling bee is Thursday, April 10, 7 p.m., at Hoboken Catholic Academy. Anyone may attend, but only three students and an alternate will be chosen to participate in the actual bee. Names of those chosen will be announced next week.
