Annabel's summary about Poppy by Avi

Poppy is a deer mouse with a boyfriend named Ragweed who's a field mouse. One day, Mr. Ocax, an owl, eats Ragweed. This makes Poppy really sad and angry. When Poppy goes home she has to dodge Mr. Ocax so he doesn't eat her too. Her father tells her that they have to move to a new house because their family is really big (75 children, 40 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren!) I think it is funny how large their family is! Poppy and her dad have to go to see Mr. Ocax to get permission to move to the new house because Mr. Ocax is like the king of the forest that they live in. Mr. Ocax says no but Poppy sneaks to the new house, thinking there must be a reason why Mr. Ocax won't let them move. When she gets to the new house, Poppy sees a fake owl on the barn door and realizes why Mr. Ocax doesn't want them to live there--he thinks Poppy & her family will listen to the fake owl and not Mr. Ocax. At the end of the book, Poppy has a fight with Mr. Ocax and kills him by sticking a porcupine quill in his claw.

My favorite character was Poppy because she was so awesome--she was very daring and my least favorite was Mr. Ocax because he was so mean and didn't let the family move. My favorite part of the book was when Poppy fought Mr. Ocax and my least favorite was when Mr. Ocax killed Ragweed because I thought that was mean.
