Annabel's review of Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos

Joey Pigza isn't the best behaving kid in the world. For example when his teacher asks "What's 74 - 38?" he says, "Can I get back to you on that?" Also, one day in class he took his house key that he wears on a string around his neck and swallowed it. Then he pulled it out of his mouth. The biggest mistake he made was when he was running with scissors and he chopped off the end of Maria's nose! He has to go to special ed class so he can get calmed down and not be so crazy. He has to go to Philadelphia to get his head x-rayed but that's a good thing. The doctors found a little band aid shaped patch that has medicine in it that keeps him from getting too hyper. Everyone is glad that the patch worked.

There are lots of interesting characters in the book besides Joey--like May and June, the twin sisters that read and write backwards. Also there is a kid named Charlie who has very short arms but normal sized hands.

I didn't really like the book too much because it was too descriptive--I got bored and lost sometimes reading it because it was too detailed. I don't think I'd like other books by this author.

This book is pretty much about how the earth was made. It starts with fish and ducks but no land in the world.

The ducks asked for land to hatch their eggs.

The Earth Maker asked: ” Can someone get me dirt from under the sea?” Four tried, but all failed. The Coot did not come back, so the Earth Maker scooped and found the lost Coot and found dirt on its beak. He picked the dirt from his beak and made mountains. He also made a lot of other animals. He told the Buffalo to push the mountains. Every 4 years Buffalo looses a leg. After Buffalo looses all legs he dies.
