On Friday, February 8, we will head to the new Museum of Mathematics to enjoy their exciting hands-on exhibits. We will be taking the PATH from Hoboken Terminal to lower Manhattan, and then walking to the museum. I will need two more chaperones, and anyone who is free from 11:30-4 on that day, please email me to let me know if you are interested.
As a part of our visit we will partake in an instructor-led experience called Introduction to Knot Theory. Students will learn about the math of knots, focusing on terminology that describes crossings, links, and knot names. Students will demonstrate knots with ropes and their arms/hands, learning this subset of topology in a hands-on format. Topology is a type of geometry.
