MSS Daily News--A Newspaper Produced by the Fourth Grade

On one of the first days of school, Katelyn and Addie came to me and asked, "Mrs. McCallihan, can we have a comic contest?" After clarifying what this entailed, I gave my approval. Several students labored over a special drawing to include in the contest, and when the deadline came, Addie and Kate judged fairly the class comic drawer.

I was thinking at this time, "Comic drawer for what?" All became clear with Katelyn's second announcement.

At this time, Katelyn and Addie named the staff of the MSS Daily News. These students interviewed students and teachers, some used a new program, Numbers, to create math charts, and others wrote their opinions about the new classes fourth graders attend. They worked before school started, during their snack time, and after their work was completed. Last week the first edition was published, and shared with the class.

This is the students' newspaper--the students picked the topics for their articles, wrote them, edited the stories, and they designed the cover. Ask your student for a copy!
