Reading Buddies

Frog and Toad, Mouse Tales, and If I Gave You a Cupcake, are just some of the titles shared between the Fourth Grade and First Grade readers yesterday during our second reading buddy time. The room is buzzing with word explanations, questions, and quiet reading voices as each grade shares this reading time. Fourth graders look forward to the opportunity to help the first graders with their reading, to forming new friendships with some of our younger students, and to hearing stories they enjoyed when they were younger. Research has shown that reading buddies improves phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, and the emotional quotient, or EQ in both age groups. The pictures show how engaged, and encouraging the experience is.
