Working to the Last Minute

Each year several members of the staff share at staff meetings something they've worked on during the year. Ms. Spurgin, Ms. Buckley and I shared about STEAM. Recently at a staff meeting our colleagues in the Nest presented a documentation project on documentation. They used documentation panels for sharing children's work. A documentation panel showcase children's artwork, photos, and words in a pristine, easy to read, and beautiful way.

I was so excited to use this technique with the fourth graders. At the end of the year we often reflect on everything we did, and share our experiences in a way to inform the next year's fourth graders. This year we are doing this using documentation panels.

The students decided on five topics to display--upper school, tips and advice, field trips, different and surprising, and STEAM. Once a group received which topic they would display, the students wasted no time choosing pictures, artwork, and artifacts to share. They have labored over what words will explain what we do. I know next year's fourth graders will appreciate their hard work, and the beauty of the panels.
