The Whipping Boy is an old adventure story. It was written by Sid Fleischman.

The story is about two boys who didn’t like each other, but then they became friends in the end. This story had many interesting characters. There were two highway men, with very weird names. They were Hold Your Nose Billy, and Cutwater. There was a mean king, a potato sack man, a bear and a fifteen-year old girl.



The story is about a prince and a whipping boy. The whipping boy gets whipped instead of the prince when the prince gets in trouble. One day the prince gets mad at the whipping boy because the whipping boy doesn’t cry when he gets whipped. So the night after that the whipping boy and the prince run away from the castle because the prince wants to get in so much trouble to make sure that the whipping boy cries when he gets spanked. While running away they run into highway men. They stole the boys food and everything that the two boys had. Soon the two boys fooled the two highway men and ran away. They ran into a fifteen year old girl who had lost her pet bear. Yikes! The two highway men found the two boys, but, instead of giving the whipping boy a whip he gave the prince a couple of whips but then the fifteen year old girl came and let the bear get the highway men. All of them ran away and the king wrote notes everywhere saying “if you find the prince turn him in and you can get a reward”. Eventually the prince got turned in. and the whipping boy was about to get spanked but the prince said “no”.



If you like adventure, you will like this story. If you like to laugh, you will like this book. I had fun reading this book, and I think you will too!
