During the mini term we discovered how to harness the wind to do work by building sailboats and windmills. Through a program called Engineering is Elementary, students practiced the engineering design process (ask, imagine, plan, create)while solving the problems of what makes the best design to do the most work. Students tinkered with the shape of the paddles, the length of sticks holding the paddles, and the angle of the paddles. Julie and Henry were the most successful. Their windmill lifted a cupful of screws--45 total!
