We Need Milk and Juice Cartons

Have you ever looked at an ordinary kitchen item and marvel at the engineering design process that went in to creating it? Why was an egg beater created? What is it's purpose? How about a manual drill? Or a can opener? How about a glue stick? Fourth graders took a closer look at these items, marking where work is done, and how they are powered. Many of these items use a simple gear mechanism that will help us with our final project in this study--a windmill.

We will be creating sail boats to observe which sail shape is the most effective for catching the wind, and transferring that knowledge to our windmill design.

A 1/2 gallon milk, or juice, carton is the base for our windmill, and we are going to need 14. Right now we have two. If you have any of these cartons, please send them to school with your student. Thanks!
